Foundation

The Polar Commitment Foundation exists to preserve Antarctica for present and future generations.

We do this by fostering collaboration, sharing critical logistical data, and developing Antarctic Gateway Centres in key cities — hubs that unite science, education, tourism, and community engagement.

By improving coordination and reducing human impact, we ensure Antarctica remains preserved while supporting essential research and responsible access.

Our work is long-term, visionary, and built on partnerships with governments, National Antarctic Programs, and local communities — creating lasting solutions for one of the world’s most extraordinary and fragile continents.

Our Strategy

The Polar Commitment Foundation believes that protecting Antarctica is not only about preserving its environment, it is also about preserving our collective ability to study it.

National Antarctic Programs

National Antarctic Programs (NAPs), universities, and research institutions from around the world operate research stations, research vessels, aircraft, and field camps that support year-round observations across both the continent and the Southern Ocean. This spirit of international cooperation is one of Antarctica's defining strengths, where scientific knowledge is shared across borders in pursuit of a common understanding of Earth's changing environment.

Antarctic Gateway Cities

Surrounding Antarctica are five important Antarctic Gateway Cities: Cape Town, Christchurch, Hobart, Punta Arenas, and Ushuaia. Each city plays a vital role in supporting Antarctic activities and has the opportunity to become a true custodian of the continent by connecting Antarctica with their communities, education systems, economies, and civic life.
